Potty Training
So, the other night we were playing at home and all of the sudden our 20 month old little girl, Lexi, ran to the stairs and started saying “pooh, pooh, pooh!”. Lexi came and grabbed my hand and led me upstairs to the bathroom. At her 18 month old check up her pediatrician recommended that I go get a little kid potty and put it in the bathroom next to our toilet. He said that I should not push her at all and not make her sit on it or anything like that. He said to just start talking to her more about the potty and one day she would decide she was ready. Well, once again my wise pediatrician was right. Once Lexi and I were in the bathroom she picked up her toilet seat off her little potty and put it on the toilet. (The type of potty I bought has a seat that you can take off and set on a real toilet so your child can sit on the toilet without falling in.) Somehow Lexi knew that she could put her seat on the big potty? I took her diaper off and sat her on the toilet. Then she went poop in the potty and her Mommy and Daddy cheered like crazy! It is so funny how parents can get so excited about their baby’s poop! Now, since that night Lexi has not gone again in the potty but whenever she poops she comes and tells me. I think we are ready to potty train this little girl, but I am wondering if she is still a little young to really get it. So tell me what you think? How old was your child when you potty trained them and how did you potty train them?

I couldn’t believe she started all by herself! Dr. Pete was right, not that we ever doubt him, if we don’t pressure her she will do it on her own. I am so proud of our big girl!

October 17th, 2008 at 3:58 pmAshlyn was 20 months old when she started too. By the time her birthday rolled around she was all done. She is a very determined little girl, so I think she mostly did it by her self. Brinley was well past 2 when she was trained so it goes to show you they are all so different. I think you are smart to encourage it but not push it. Good job and keep up the good work. Potty training is one of my least favorite thing about parenting. This is a fun website to read and relate to!! Thanks.

October 20th, 2008 at 6:28 pmOh, I would love it if Lexi was all potty trained by the time her birthday came. Especially since we have 2 kids in diapers right now!
